This is probably going to be my last post of my summer 2019 Tokyo trip (It’s been more than a month and I’m still going on about it). Anyways, for the last post, I wanted to review the hotel we stayed at: Millennium Mitsui Hotel.
Getting there: When we attempted to get to the hotel from the airport, we were incredibly confused. We got on the right trains, but I think we took a couple of local ones instead of the more express ones. It took us almost 2 hours to get to the hotel. Going to the airport, though, was much easier. A nice thing about the hotel was the fact that the Higashi-ginza is right next door, and if you take the elevator exit, you literally turn a corner and you are at the front door.
The transport: Even though the Higashi-ginza station is right next to the hotel, we ended up using the Ginza station more often. It wasn’t too far; I would estimate it to be a 3 minute walk (5 minutes max for all the slow walkers out there). Ginza is a great station as it has 3 lines (Hibiya, Ginza, and Marunouchi) and we ended up taking the Ginza line almost every day.
Checking In: Arriving on a hot day after dragging our luggage around, walking into the air-conditioned lobby was a breath of fresh air. The hotel staff were very nice and check in was very quick.
The Room: This is why I wanted to write a review of the hotel: for the room. My first impression was just like any other hotel. It actually wasn’t spectacular when I walked in, it was somewhat like an ordinary hotel room.
One thing though is that it has Japanese-style bathrooms. The toilet has it’s own room: a Toto toilet with all those fancy settings to spoil your behind. I didn’t take advantage of all the toilet’s settings, but they are there if you’re into that (I am a fan of the automatic toilet cover lift thing when you walk past though). The shower part is set up in a very Japanese way too. There’s a room with a tub and a shower head on one of the walls. I believe I’ve heard the way to do it is to rinse yourself off with the shower then you get into the bath for the full bathing process. However, neither me or my mom are bath people, so we both just ended up using the shower the whole time.
Something that we didn’t notice at first was all the little things that were offered. When you open up the vanity drawer there are a whole bunch of small things (q-tips, floss, toothbrush, etc.); they had 2 sets of slippers as well. The vanity has a bright and flattering light too; not the usual florescent one that is awful when trying to apply makeup.
The bed wasn’t spectacular, but I have yet to find any hotel bed that’s 100% to my liking. I am an easy and heavy sleeper so honestly bed comfortability isn’t tipity-top on my list even though it is for a lot of other people. I am however a wifi-snob. If a hotel doesn’t have good wifi, it gets major deductions in my mind. The wifi at the Millennium Mitsui Hotel was okay. For the most part it was fine, but there were some times where nothing would load.
Lastly, and the best part, was the shower experience. The shower products were the best hotel shower products I’ve used. They smell great and they are the types of products that I like: clarifying, but not super stripping. Your hair feels clean and the conditioner locks everything in. The water pressure is amazing too: definitely one of the best at a hotel. I said before that wifi is a top priority, the shower products/water pressure is also top on my list of hotel qualifications, and I give the shower part a 10/10. Absolutely fabulous! I tried looking up the bath products too; I wanted to take some home with me, but I couldn’t find it. It’s from Mikimoto, which oddly is a jewelry brand… so I’m not sure what’s up with that.
The Verdict: It’s a very nice hotel in a very nice location, so with that said it’s not the most budget hotel. But if you are like me and like a clean, friendly-staff, top-notch amenity hotel to relax in after a jam-packed day, then this is a nice option. I did however find that we were transiting to the Shibuya area quite often so maybe in the future it would be nice to stay a bit more on the west side of Tokyo.
Sorry about no photos from the hotel! I’ve never been that kind of person to take pictures of the hotel and its room and I didn’t know that I would actually do a blog post about the hotel we stayed at.
